(Florham Park, NJ)  --  Rookie Sam Darnold will be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets in Week One.

Darnold beat out veteran Josh McCown for the job.  The Jets open the regular season at Detroit on Monday Night Football.  The Jets traded quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints last week in a sign that Darnold had gained the team's trust.  He was the third-overall pick in this year's NFL Draft out of USC and will be the youngest starter in team history.  Darnold threw for 244 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in three preseason games for New York.  McCown will serve as the backup.
