The Minnesota Vikings could be without their starting nose tackle at the beginning of training camp later this month.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Monday morning that Michael Pierce suffered a calf injury while training and his availability for the start of camp is in doubt.

Pierce missed the entire duration of the 2020 after opting out and his presence was severely missed as the defense ranked 27th in rushing yards allowed.

It’s not expected that Pierce will miss any regular season time as of now, but the good news is the Vikings have some depth along the interior of the defensive line. Even if Pierce were to miss some time, Dalvin Tomlinson and Sheldon Richardson should be able to hold the fort down until he fully recovers.
