Justin Jefferson sets NFL's rookie receiving yards record in Super Bowl era

Minnesota Vikings v Detroit Lions

The Vikings are pretty much playing for nothing today as they’ve already been eliminated from the playoffs. Even with the team packing up for the season after their showdown with the Lions there are plenty of bright spots to look forward to in 2021.

The biggest bright spot of the 2020 season has been the breakout play of Justin Jefferson. The Vikings’ rookie receiver paid tribute to Randy Moss with his cleats today as he broke the second rookie receiving record set by Moss in 1998.

Not only did Jefferson set the record for yards by a Vikings’ receiver, but he also broke Anquan Boldin’s rookie record for receiving yards in the Super Bowl era.

Despite finishing the season with a losing record the Vikings have found the future star of their offense. Jefferson was the fifth wide receiver drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft and has shown that the teams that passed on him made a mistake.

Jefferson has surpassed 100 yards for the seventh game of the year and is still climbing with seven catches for 112 yards with 15 minutes left in the game. His 1,379 yards on the season will go down in history as the best rookie performance by a wide receiver in NFL history.

The Vikings had a roller coaster ride throughout the 2020 season, but it’s clear that the receiving corps is in good hands in the future with the emergence of Jefferson in his rookie campaign. This is a theme for the Vikings heading into 2021, as they are set up for a better season with the return of several key pieces on Mike Zimmer’s defense.
