Minneapolis, MN - I'd be lying to say that the idea of the Vikings ridding themselves of Adrian Peterson (more accurately ridding themselves of his contract) hasn't been the topic of some conversation around Minnesota the past year or so. But up until this point, no part of the conversation has come out of Adrian Peterson's mouth.

Familiar with toeing the company line, Adrian has deflected any and all questions about him landing elsewhere returning to how excited he is to be a Minnesota Vikings in the here and now. However, a report has surfaced from Outside the Lines claiming that last June Adrian made a phone call to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones showing interest in becoming a member of the Cowboys in the future.

"Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson told Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in a June telephone call he would like to play for the Cowboys at the end of his tenure with the Vikings, according to an "Outside the Lines" report.

"Well, I understand, Adrian," Jones told Peterson during the call. "I'd like that, too ... Well, I love your story. I love your daddy's story. I've always respected what you've been about. I've always been a fan of yours."

The telephone call is recounted as part of an expansive "Outside the Lines"/ESPN The Magazine profile of Jones by ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. that was published Thursday."

The source claims that they were in a Cowboys suite with the Dallas executive when the call came in and Jones was handed the phone.

"Well, we'll see what we can do, if we can make that happen," Jones, who is also the Cowboys' general manager, told Peterson. "Hmm hmm ... I'd like that, too ... Well, we're talking pig Latin here, but let's see if we can do that ... We're talking pig Latin here, but let's see what we can do about that. OK, Adrian, thanks."

Jerry Jones has since confirmed that the phone call did take place and that Peterson did say he wanted to play for the Cowboys, was disappointed that the existence of the conversation had leaked. Tampering rules put in place by the NFL require Jones to have reported the conversation after being contacted by AP.

Peterson is a native of Palestine, TX, approximately 100 miles southeast of Dallas.
