On Tuesday, the Chicago Sun Times reported that former Bears all-pro linebacker Brian Urlacher had narrowed list of teams to sign with to the Vikings and Broncos.
Not so fast.
Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier dismissed the report Wednesday.
"Brian has been a great player in our league for a long, long time," Frazier told 'NFL A.M.' "He was a thorn in our side for many years. At this point we want to look at the guys on our roster, give them a chance to compete for the middle linebacker position then we'll see where it takes us."
The leading in-house candidate for the starting middle linebacker job appears to be Erin Henderson, who says he is mentally preparing himself to move to the middle.
Penn State rookie inside linebacker Michael Mauti, who signed with the Vikings Tuesday, could be a long shot to earn the job.
