Eden Prairie, MN - All the transition around Winter Park has made for quite the interesting offseason. But a little jibber jabber off the field has added another level of drama as players continue to prepare for the 2015 season.

In May, Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy made headlines nationwide as he began to refer to himself as the best running back in the league. While McCoy may have a case to be argued, many questioned McCoy's belief that he had surpassed the reigning top dog Adrian Peterson.

A few weeks removed from the initial comment, Peterson laughing it off and then McCoy reiterating his claim as the best, reporters caught up with Peterson once again to ask his opinion on the bold statements coming out of the Eagles offseason program.

"I love his mentality," Peterson said Thursday following the Vikings final mini camp practice. "Since I've been in the league, every year there's been a guy that's better than me. When I came in, I had the same mentality, that I'm the best...I play this game for one reason, and that's to be the best."

Comparing the stats of the two stars, it's a pretty close race and realistically depends on what you are looking for in your running back.

Comparative stats, last three seasons (2011-2013):

Name
Rushing Yards
Rushing TDs
Rushing Y/A
Receiving Yards
Receiving TDs
Receiving Y/R
Adrian Peterson

527

6.1
LeSean McCoy

It's no surprise that Peterson holds the edge on the ground while McCoy adds another element through the air. That said, there has been little-to-no utilization of Peterson in the passing game prior to this season. We've already seen a healthy dose of Peterson catching passes out of the backfield in this Norv Turner offense, so realistically, this year may be the deciding factor for those who are not sure which way to lean.

Peterson went on to note that he applauds McCoy's mentality towards the situation saying, "If you're thinking you're second best, you're going to remain in that position. But he's going to have to work extremely hard to surpass me."

For whatever it's worth, which probably isn't much, Peterson is currently the odds on favorite to win this year's rushing title with 4-to-1 odds. McCoy is just behind him at 5-to-1.

When asked where he thinks he's going to fall on the NFL Network's Top 100 Players list, Peterson said "I feel like I'm the best."

"Peyton [Manning] will be #1," Peterson continued. "The MVP will be #1, I'll be 1b."
