After an explosive win against the defending Stanley Cup champions on home ice last night, the Wild traveled to Columbus to face off against the Blue Jackets. It looked like an entirely different team made the trip to Columbus, as the Minnesota was out-skated, out-shot, and out-scored. The Wild were shut out by the Jackets 4-0 in the end.
Niklas Backstrom was back in the cage for Minnesota tonight, stopping all nine shots that he faced in the opening period. Curtis McElhinney was between the pipes for the Blue Jackets tonight and shut down each of the 7 shots he faced this period as well. Both teams left the first period knotted at a 0-0 tie.
At into the second period Columbus took the early lead with a snap shot from Cam Atkinson that blew past Backstrom. Columbus kept the momentum from their first goal through the period, and at they took a two-goal lead with a power play goal from Nick Foligno. The Wild were out shot 18-8 this period.
The final period opened with the Wild down by two goals and looking slow. At , a shot blasted from Boone Jenner made this a 3-0 game in favor of the Blue Jackets. Following another Wild turn over at , a two-on-zero break resulted in R.J Umberger putting his team up 4-0 over Minnesota. The Wild were outshot 14-5 this period, and ultimately outplayed, earning a 4-0 loss tonight.
