Minneapolis, MN - Continuing the blitz of selections on day three of the draft, Rick Spielman and the Vikings added another Tight End by selecting Rhett Ellison from USC with the 33rd pick in the 4th round.
At 6'5", 270lbs, Ellison is actually a hybrid TE/FB. Worst case for the Vikings he further size and depth in a young talented corps of Tight Ends with Kyle Rudolph and John Carlson. With 22 receptions and 2 TDs in 2011, Ellison was named to the first team All-Pac12 as a senior.
At the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine, Ellison ran a 4.88 40-yard dash, posted a 31.5" vertical leap and a 109" broad jump.
Spielman has a plan for Ellison, as for me, I have to think he slots the draftee into the fullback position.
