Minneapolis, MN - Because of the day's early rush of Vikings' draft picks, it seems like it's been days since Minnesota last made a selection. Well the wait is over. With the 5th pick in the 6th round (175th overall), the Minnesota Vikings have selected Blair Walsh, a kicker out of the University of Georgia.
A member of Georgia's team of the decade, Walsh set the SEC record with 412 career points which ranks second in NCAA history. Known to have a big leg, Walsh was a perfect on 46 extra point attempts in 2011 and recorded 19 touchbacks. Walsh has even been known to hit from beyond 60-yards!
Kicker Ryan Longwell is still signed for two more seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, but Walsh would likely be used on kickoffs off the bat and fill in as full time place kicker for the veteran Longwell after 2014.
Walsh is 5'9" and 187lbs.
