Only a sophomore, Tyus Jones is a household name throughout Minnesota and across the country. He recently added to his growing list accolades as he broke Apple Valley’s school assist records when he recorded his 448^thassist and he isn’t even halfway through his high school career!

GopherHole’s Nadine Babu caught up with Jones Tuesday night to learn the latest on his recruitment and thought process as he navigates the recruiting process that will only intensify as he progresses through high school.

Rashad Vaughn, a 6-foot-4 sophomore from Robbinsdale Cooper, shined this past weekend at the Breakdown Tip-Off Classic as he scored 30 points in their 64-61 loss to Minneapolis DeLaSalle in front of the entire Minnesota Gopher coaching staff. GopherHole.com caught up with Vaughn to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Vaughn received an offer from the Gophers at the Tubby Smith Team Camp this summer. He also has offers from Baylor, Iowa State, Oregon State, Tennessee, Arizona State, Iowa and Wisconsin and expect that list to continue to grow.

Vaughn attended a Gopher football earlier this fall and he and his Cooper teammates were guest at Tuesday night's’ basketball game versus Central Michigan.

Vaughn averaged 11.6 points per game last season as a freshman. The Hawks finished 19-10, losing to Osseo 74-50 in the second round of the Class AAAA, section semifinals. He scored in double figures in 17 of his 25 games with a season-high 24 points versus Chisago Lakes.

Tyus Jones, a 6-foot-2 sophomore point guard from Apple Valley, has had two outstanding seasons as a starter for the Eagles. However, bad news for metro areas opponents, Jones is even better this year, as his 32.3 points per game average indicates.  GopherHole.com watched Jones play his first three games of the season in person and caught up with him after their 80-62 win over Henry Sibley to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Jones averaged 16.5 points per game two seasons ago and led the Metro area in assists as an eighth grader. Jones scored in double figures in 21 of 28 games as the Eagles finished 20-8.

Jones upped those numbers to 18.8 points and eight assists per game for the Eagles, which went 19-10 last season, despite missing 13 games with a lacerated kidney that he suffered in the season opener against St. Louis Park...
