Behind every good football program there are dedicated coaches, talented players and enthusiastic fans. The Gophers believe to have the first two but as of lately are lacking in the third. Gopher students have purchased approximately 2,000 tickets of the 50,800 seat stadium.

BIG 10 rival, Univ. of Wisconsin, sold 13,119 tickets in thirty minutes this year. Wisconsin’s fans have not only created an atmosphere, unlike any other, but cheered on their successful team in several bowl games over the past few years.

Do the Gophers even need fans? Will that make their program succeed? The last time the Gophers attended a bowl game was under the coaching of Tim Brewster in 2009.

Will the decline in student ticket sales negatively affect the 2012 football season?
