The Minnesota Vikings defeated the St. Louis Rams this past Sunday with a final score of 36-22. What were the important mental notes to take away for fans including talk about Adrian Peterson's rushing yards as well as Blair Walsh's record breaking field goals.

Peterson rushed for 212 yards on Sunday and is 294 yards short of Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing yards record. Dickerson set the record for single-season rushing yards in 1984 with 2,105 yards. Peterson has already surpassed what was thought for him this season and it won't be a surprise when he sets his mark with the new single-season rushing yard record.

Blair Walsh couldn't go without recognition for his helping-hand in the Vikings win on Sunday. Walsh is a rookie from the University of Georgia. He, too, made history for the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Walsh tied the record for most 50-plus yard field goals in a single season. He shares the record along with Jason Hanson and Morten Anderson.

Another player that has earned Vikings' fans attention is Christian Ponder. Over the last few games Christian Ponder has failed to meet fans' expectations. This past Sunday he played better than expected. Ponder completed 17/24 pass attempts with a completion percentage of 70.8%. If this were a test, he would be less than average but now isn't the time to give up hope on this young QB.

Let's look back to 2004 - Eli Manning's first season as QB for the New York Giants. His pass attempt percentages were low as well. On December 12, 2004, E. Manning had a pass completion percentage as low as 22.2%. This could not be easy for a rookie QB but it didn't stop his drive to improve.

So far this season, E. Manning has earned 20 touchdowns, and 3,590 yards. Manning has improved in the last 8 seasons with the New York Giants.

Is Ponder worth keeping around? In my personal opinion I think yes. After his 5 yd. TD rush, Ponder started the game off right by avoiding a sack and putting the first points on the scoreboard. I think the Vikings need to give him another year to develop in the off-season as well as next season itself.
