The 2012 Prep Bowl is around the corner and with the new class of 6A football the state championship game becomes more of an event than a game itself.
The last games of the playoffs take place at the Metrodome and start tonight with Edina vs. Rosemount, 5 PM followed by Prior Lake vs. Lakeville North, 8 PM. Tomorrow, Wayzata vs. Eastview, 5 PM followed by Eden Prairie vs. Minnetonka, 8 PM.
I predict a win for Edina tonight. They have strong offensive and their QB, Mark Handberg (#2), leads in passing and rushing yards for the Hornets. It will be interesting to see if Rosemount can put a stop to this quick footed offense.
Lakeville North and Prior Lake could be a toss up. These two teams have met previously this season and Prior Lake came out with a 10-6 victory. The game consisted of several field goals and a lack of touchdowns. Both offenses and defenses will be tested tonight and this could be a very good game to watch.
Wayzata and Eastview have met this season and it will be interesting to see how the two teams play against each other, again. Early on in the season Wayzata had several injuries that affected the team big time. Mitch Underhill (senior) tore his ACL and MCL. This is his second tear, the first was last season. They moved Jeff Borchardt to RB and this really helped the offense out. Wayzata has a solid hands on defense. Eastview will have to be able to make some big plays in order to put up points against the Trojans if they want to win. I predict a Wayzata Trojan win for tomorrow night.
Lastly, but not least, the Eden Prairie Eagles play the Minnetonka Skippers tomorrow night at 8 PM. The two teams are powerhouse classic-lake conference teams and they have met this season. Eden Prairie blew Minnetonka away with a win 42-7. Eden Prairie's QB likes to run the ball more than he throws. Minnetonka will have to close the gaps and stop big plays from Eden Prairie in order to win. I predict an Eden Praire Eagles win.
