PERCY HARVIN. The A-topic on the identity of sports around here (KFAN) is Percy Harvin. It's a difficult talker for me because I don't want him to go and am becoming frustrated outside of speculation I am not hearing anything concrete that would indicate he should leave.
I wish SPIELMAN would have come right out and guaranteed he'd be on the team next year Friday when I asked him point blank whether Harvin would be in the mix. He was evasive and I understand why.
I am thinking about Harvin leaving way too much. I hate hypotheticals and speculating, and that's supposedly part of what makes VOX-ing a KFAN show fun. I'd rather grieve the losses and/or celebrate the wins. Guessing what is next for us and Percy Harvin troubles me, and I officially am giving in. If people want to vent about the deal on the radio, all good.
There are times I can tap on those in the know for the right answer and times -- CHRIS COOK, FAVRE-STERGER, MOSS-catering -- where you just lay off. I am not in the news-breaking business and never will be. This is a hot spot with those inside the building, and I am going to sit back and let the bad boy play out.
If they don't trust him for whatever the reason he has to be dealt. To keep him you have to extend his deal into the season -- in my opinion -- or he likely will not show for camps or training camp. If that's the case do people really want a guy who doesn't honor his deal? PHIL LOADHOLT just entered the final year of his rookie contract and properly handled business -- worked hard, improved, dominated in the run game and, thus, will get paid.
Phil plays more snaps than Percy so why should 12 be coddled if, indeed, he was kept and failed to honor the final year of the deal? Of course I know Percy is more dynamic than Phil and is a game-changing skill guy, but from a business standpoint Spielman has to ponder stuff like that.
People wonder if what may be transpiring with Harvin is due to him no longer wanting to play with CHRISTIAN PONDER. They should be reminded before ADRIAN took off and became the game's MVP Harvin was top-of-the-heap stock, and it was Ponder delivering the ball. Ponder and Percy absolutely can co-exist and in guessing if there is a significant problem I don't add this to the analysis.
Percy is a tricky figure. He can be quiet and distant but when he speaks he sometimes flares up and gets nasty. He's not the first in game lore to act like that. Percy Harvin and LESLIE FRAZIER have have had a good relationship since Leslie started full-time in 2011.
Longstorylonger, don't expect Percy to do an interview anytime soon because he doesn't roll that way. If the team knows Percy no longer wants to wear our colors he has to be traded, and a first-round pick should be the level of compensation. If it's a non first-rounder it needs to be at least a quality second plus more. No REVIS ISLAND (also mercurial/ACL injury) or FITZ (makes too much, deal too complicated, they won't move him), but something that aids our theme from last year -- youth and building to stay good for years.
Percy Harvin absolutely has been one of my favorite Vikings to cover since I started in 2002, but he's not bigger than the team in the ultimate team game. Minnesota went 5-and-2 sans the Slot Machine and managed to make the playoffs. If Spielman trades Percy I support the call and if he keeps him and gives him new money I am on board. I trust Rick's work ethic and gut instincts and feel we all should chill and let him do his thing. He knows what's best for the TEAM in the ultimate TEAM game.
