We celebrate the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey Team and one of its stars, Jonny "The Mouse" Mikkelson, who once told me "Our team was so good the varsity wouldn't play us." When asked why he didn't play varsity Mouse said, "Too little." Cutest ever. So, we salute the greatest Club Hockey Team ever, a squad so vaunted even Jim Craig's Miracle team wanted nothing to do with it. Trottier, Bossy, Gretzky, Messier ... dead! Long live the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey team!

f the Wild were Judge Charles H. Older, the judge that sent Charles Manson to the clink: “2 weeks in the workhouse and 1 month probation!”
Called for an emergency penalty box show tomorrow at The X, and the team and bosses said, "cool." Team needs some Love Covenant Karma, and we hope the love we bring is spread throughout the arena and catapults Our Favorite Hockey Team to a win versus The Champs that would go a long way towards helping them reach the postseason.
I got the sports-snob, fan-like frustration off my chest at 10:20 this morning by chiding the lack of scoring, wondering why BRODZIAK, CLUTTERBUCK and/or SETOGUCHI don't score more, wondering why THE GOALIE never steals games and negative-ass stuff like that. Took a deep breath and tomorrow we head into Vox in the Box mode, and it's time to sell some hope.
It seemed watching/listening to the game last night the crowd was silent, stunned and a little apathetic. The 'FANline crew said it sounded like a "library" or "attending the opera." Are we surprised? This is Loserville, USA with sports, a place where little to nothing goes right. They only can be emotionally beaten down so many times. Yeah, I'd like for the fans to love unconditionally and cheer more vociferously but completely understand why they would boo or, worse yet due to apathy setting in, not say anything at all.
We close with the Kings tomorrow night and Edmonton Friday, and both those games are here. We have a nasty losing streak at home. That obviously has to halt. Then we close at the Av's and while it should be winnable they all are losable when you can't score, your goalie gets pulled and you lack a speedy, big-time goal scorer. No knock on PARISE because I totally dig and respect his game but he's more of a do-everything-well grinder than a game-changing goal scorer. He scores but needs help, and MIKKO KOIVU is not the answer.
Buy the hope tomorrow beginning at 9 a.m. and let's get this team to the postseason so we can have a chip, chair and chance and pulling a round-one upset. We'll kind of forget Calgary if you beat The Champs. Win out. Turn the frown upside down but finishing in the six spot and deal with The 'Couv round one. Just do it and make it fun. The owner spent zillions of bucks to make it better and make the playoffs, and we are jacking with the vibe by coming up pear-shaped late. Finish the bleeping race.
Don't let the man you fired -- TODD RICHARDS -- finish ahead of you in the Conference standings.
... NFL DRAFT: Alabama CB DEE MILLINER is the best overall at his spot in this draft, and most likely will go in the top nine. The Lions might draft him during their annual quest to fix and anemic pass defense, and, quite honestly, i hope they do because it would be foregoing the big picture and looking for an immediate fix.
I ain't tripping here; I realize Milliner is a stud and most likely would be good for years for our division rival, but the Lions would be erroring if they don't take an OT or DL here. Seriously, CLIFF AVRIL bolted for Seattle, and he was the best LDE in the division. Good against the run, causes headaches, big on TFLs.
On their OL JEFF BACKUS retired and GOSDER CHERILUS left via FA. Backus was an ironman for many years and I respect him, but that bookending bit needed to be revamped. They need to find a way from five to OT LANE JOHNSON. The EZEKIAL ANSAH DE BIT from BYU is a bit of a gamble due to his inexperience, but the kid is fast and talented. That would make more sense than Milliner.
Fix the secondary from the front back, and keep your identity -- your passing game -- clean with better protection. The Lions will get better somewhere with the fifth overall pick but have more needs than us and should again finish behind us in the standings.
