We celebrate the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey Team and one of its stars, Jonny "The Mouse" Mikkelson, who once told me "Our team was so good the varsity wouldn't play us." When asked why he didn't play varsity Mouse said, "Too little." Cutest ever. So, we salute the greatest Club Hockey Team ever, a squad so vaunted even Jim Craig's Miracle team wanted nothing to do with it. Trottier, Bossy, Gretzky, Messier ... dead! Long live the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey team!

I think second-year WR JARIUS WRIGHT can be a sneaky-good contributor for the Vikings passing game this season. I thought extensively about his potential on the drive home from 'FANkato today. This came after a post-practice chat with GM RICK SPIELMAN during which he claimed Wright "has taken much more a leadership role within the locker room."
Jarius played pretty well last year, and being the immediate fill-in for the popular PERCY wasn't the easiest of roles. He played seven games and was targeted about five times a game for an offense that (a) didn't pass it too well and (b) ran the hell out of the rock. Towards the end of the year Jarius started becoming more secure with things and was making defenders miss on short stuff. He was running the Percy plays and it started to click.
I am not calling for a 1000-yard, 10-TD season fot the second-year Razorback, but he did average 14 YPC and got behind safeties more than a handful of times. He killed Bears S MAJOR WRIGHT in a home game, and CHRISTIAN badly underthrew the should-have-been-TD pass for an interception. That was an indicator Jarius was selling his moves well and even as a rookie was capable of blowing by veteran safeties.
Consistency will be key for him. The expectation is for Christian to mix in many in the passing game, and that should give the play-action game more merit with MVP in the backfield. Our play-action passing should be much better this year than it was last season. Jarius Wright, who amassed two first downs a game last year, will be part of that.
Seriously, I am super excited about our passing game because with Jarius, GREG JENNINGS, RUDOLPH and CORDARRELLE PATTERSON we are in much better shape than last year when it was JENKINS, AROMASHODU and a hurt JEROME SIMPSON. Plus, Ponder is in his second full year starting. This could be good.
We ran it 486 times last season and passed it 483 times. To some that's balance, to others observing a "passing league" it's leaving chunks of yardage on the table and losing explosiveness in the play-action-passing game. I expect the team to pass 55 percent of the time this year, and the runs will be fine with the improved passing game. Adrian still will average close to two runs of at least 20 yards per game.
Jarius Wright is going to play a bunch this year and will make some game-changing plays. That he is assuming more of a leadership role within the offense is cool, too. Looks like a solid fourth-round draft choice and one that will help us have a better chance at winning the division and/or passing our way back into games.
