We celebrate the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey Team and one of its stars, Jonny "The Mouse" Mikkelson, who once told me "Our team was so good the varsity wouldn't play us." When asked why he didn't play varsity Mouse said, "Too little." Cutest ever. So, we salute the greatest Club Hockey Team ever, a squad so vaunted even Jim Craig's Miracle team wanted nothing to do with it. Trottier, Bossy, Gretzky, Messier ... dead! Long live the 1983 Wayzata Club Hockey team!

f the Wild were Judge Charles H. Older, the judge that sent Charles Manson to the clink: “2 weeks in the workhouse and 1 month probation!”
Yep, that's right, I picked the Minnesota Vikings to go to the NFC Title Game end of the BWW Plymouth 'Feast today, and I meant it. Didn't do it to energize the fan base because with the MVP and off a playoff season it is plenty jazzed. I did it because we have elite talent in many key spots, and I believe two of our three first-round picks are going to be extremely good.
MVP in the backfield, KALIL, SULLIVAN, JENNINGS, RUDOLPH, WALSH, ALLEN, ROBISON-GRIFFEN, GREENWAY, SMITH ... it's all good with Our Favorite Team.
I have no change to the prediction I made after mini-camp that we finish 11-and-5 and win the NFCN. If that's the case we get a home playoff game and maybe a week off. I feel CHRISTIAN PONDER will hold up his end of the bargain and be fine with what they ask him to do. He's too robotic for me sometimes, but the game is coming more naturally to Number 7. Still feel he needs to run more explosively, feel the blitz better and be more accurate on deep passes, but to make the NFC Championship Game prediction I feel he can get to 245 PYPG, a TD-INT ratio of 2 1/2-to-1, 32 hits or more of at least 20 yards and a completion percentage around 66.
I love SHARRIF FLOYD and CORDARRELLE PATTERSON and love that XAVIER RHODES is on our team but feel the other two first-rounders are stars in the making right now. Rhodes might be extremely good, too, and he will be tested frequently Sunday at Detroit, because that's how OC SCOTT LINEHAN operates. Same goes for second-year CB JOSH ROBISNON, the "inside nickel" replacement to ANTOINE WINFIELD. Linehan will run right at Josh to make sure he's a willing tackler.
Anyoldway, I am extremely excited to go to Detroit tomorrow, shoot some dice with BERCICH and call the season-opening contest from Ford Field. I truly believe we win this game. Here are some nuggets from the game-calling depth chart:
-- The Vikings have 94 sacks the last two years, second most in the NFL (Cincy).
-- Griffen sacked MATT STAFFORD three times last year and amassed six sacks the final seven games last season.
-- Rhodes had eight INT in four years at FSU,
-- CHRIS COOK has zero INTs, FFs and/or FRs during his career. That needs to change in a big way beginning this season.
-- Floyd had 23 1/2 TFLs at Florida.
-- LATROY GUION sacked Stafford twice at Detroit last year
-- JAMARCA SANFORD forced five fumbles last year, most in a season by a Vikes DB in team history.
-- CHAD GREENWAY has led the Vikings in tackles five consecutive years.
-- Detroit's RT JASON FOX never has started a regular-season game. Its RG DYLAN GANDY has not started a game in three years. Advantage Minnesota!
-- RB REGGIE BUSH averaged 14.7 YP Rec. this preseason and 7.3 during his career.
-- Stafford threw an NFL record 727 passes last year. He had eight games at 300 yards or more. He went for 648 yards, three TDs and a pick versus Minnesota last season.
-- Det. K DAVID AKERS is 24-for-47 lifetime from 50 plus.
-- Det. rookie P SAM MARTIN averaged 48.5 YPP this preseason. He was selected in the fifth round from Appalachian State.
-- MARCUS SHERELS had a 77-yard PR TD on his 25th birthday at Detroit last season.
-- Patterson averaged 30 yards per KR this preseason.
-- MVP is 151 rushing yards from becoming the third back ever to run for 9,000 yards in 90 games (BROWN/DICKERSON).
-- Adrian had seven games last year of at least 150 yards rushing.
-- Adrian amassed seven runs last year of at least 50 yards.
-- Ponder is 2-and-1 lifetime versus Detroit.
-- JEROME SIMPSON has zero TDs and/or 100-yard games with Minnesota.
-- JARIUS WRIGHT caught his first TD pass as a pro against the Lions.
-- Jennings is a Kalamazoo, MI. native.
-- Jennings has 50 receiving tds the last six years, fourth most in the NFL during that span.
-- Patterson had nine TDs at UT lasy year (five rec., three rush, one KR).
-- Walsh had two walk-off winners last year and his 35 makes were most in the NFL.
-- Det. DT NICK FAIRLEY had 5 1/2 sacks last year and one on Ponder.
-- Det. OLB ASHLEE PALMER has not started a game in three years.
-- S GLOVER QUIN had 3 1/2 TFL versus Minnesota at Houston last year.
