Houston, TX - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was arrested early Saturday morning at a Houston area nightclub.

Peterson was booked on the charge of resisting arrest around 2:30am. The Houston Chronicle has reported that Peterson posted a $1,000 bond and was released from jail around 10:30am.

According to KFAN contributor Mike Florio & ProFootballTalk.com the incident was captured on tape.

"According to the source, Peterson, his girlfriend, and some family members were at a nightclub in Houston.  At closing time, a group of police officers entered the club, and they began instructing the remaining patrons to leave. Peterson wanted to get some water before he left, but an officer told Peterson that he needed to leave.  Some words apparently were exchanged, but Peterson eventually walked to the exit with one of the club’s bouncers. It’s believed that one of the officers then jumped on Peterson’s back from behind and tried to take him down.  (Key word:  “tried.”)  Other officers then joined the fray and completed the arrest." - ProFootballTalk.com

The Vikings have yet to release an official announcement but through PR representatives have released the following statement.

"We are aware of the situation and are gathering more information," a Vikings spokesperson said. "At this point we will have no further comment."

With so few details out there and the incident reportedly being captured on surveillance tape, many more details are sure to surface in the next few days.

UPDATE (3:07pm): KTRK in Houston is reporting that Adrian Peterson shoved an off duty police officer spurring his Saturday AM arrest.

"Police said he was at a bar with a group of people when an off-duty HPD officer working security told them to leave because the bar was closing. Officials said the group did not leave and the officer had to return and tell them to leave a second time. That's when, according to officials, Peterson said, "we heard you the first time" and pushed the officer in the shoulder, causing him to stumble. Investigators said the officer then told Peterson he was under arrest and asked him to turn around, but Peterson began yelling and turned around to face the officer instead. It took three off-duty officers to handcuff Peterson as he allegedly continued to resist." - KTRK TV

The police report also noted that Peterson complained of shortness of breath but was checked out and cleared with a good bill of health.

Peterson and the Vikings have yet to offer an official comment in regards to the incident.
