The second day of Vikings' practices kicked off with a walkthrough
Saturday morning in Mankato. The stands were pretty much empty, but should fill up for the longer afternoon practice, featuring more 11-on-11 game-like
conditioning.
Notes From The Walkthrough
The first national reporter that I've been able to recognize was Jay
Glazer. He arrived in Mankato on Friday and has spent some time with Jared
Allen.
Rookie defensive back Josh Robinson was back on the field a day
after leaving practice with an apparent hamstring injury, but he did not practice in any team drills.
Percy Harvin was first up to run through some kick return
drills. After the practice special teams coordinator Mike Priefer said Harvin is the team's No. 1 return man. Interesting...
Rookie fullback Rhett Ellison was one of the lead blockers on kick
returns. GM Rick Spielman told the FAN on Friday that he's excited for "what he
does and what he'll bring on special teams as well."
Position Battle Updates
Right guard: Brandon Fusco working with the first team ahead
of Geoff Schwartz and Chris DeGeare.
Safeties: Jamarca Sanford and Mistral Raymond -- Harrison
Smith working on the second team.
Fullback: Rhett Ellison and Jerome Felton splitting first
team reps on the first two days of practice.
Watching The Wide Receivers
Percy Harvin - He's happy and looks as explosive as ever.
Jerome Simpson - Looks like a legitimate deep threat.
Michael Jenkins - Was a key target for Ponder being getting
injured last season.
Devin Aromashodu - Good chance to keep a roster spot as a
veteran WR.
Jarius Wright - Splitting reps on second and third team.
Greg Childs - Splitting reps on second and third team.
Stephen Burton - On the non-football injury list.
A.J. Love - At 6-foot-2, 210 pounds he has size, and has
shown good hands.
Kamar Jorden - Vikings.com's Mike Wobschall likes him. He's
made a few terrific catches early in camp.
Bryan Walters - Fresh from San Diego, Walters has versatility
and can return kicks.
Emmanuel Arceneaux - Practice squad, maybe?
Kerry Taylor - Long shot to make the team.
