Green Bay, WI - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder took the field shortly after team busses arrived at Lambeau field this afternoon around 4:15pm and took 3-5 light tosses at 15 yards with head trainer Eric Sugarman and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave by his side. Following the throws, the trio held a short discussion and retreated back inside to the cover of the Vikings locker room. At the time, we didn't know that those tosses would be last throws we see Ponder throw this week.

Around 5:30pm, Minnesota Vikings inactives were released and on the list, quarterback Christian Ponder. Ponder has been suffering from bursitis in his throwing elbow since last week's game against the Packers at Mall of America Field.

Ponder's deactivation pushes Joe Webb into the starting role and McLeod Bethel-Thompson in to be the backup for the Vikings tonight in Green Bay. Webb will be starting the third game of his career and the first since January 2nd, 2011.

With Webb at the helm, the Vikings offensive attack changes slightly, but still significantly. The heavy load will still be passed off to running back Adrian Peterson, but Webb's dual threat ability will throw in a new wrinkle that the Green Bay Packers will not be familiar with.

Webb's last two starts came against the Detroit Lions (01/02/11) and in that strange Tuesday night game in Philly on 12/28/10. The Philly game saw him go for 195 yards through the air as the Vikings defeated the Eagles and the Detroit game ended in a loss but saw Webb set the Vikings all-time rushing record for quarterbacks with 109 in that game.

ALSO NOTED:  Antoine Winfield is active and expected to start for the Vikings
