Minneapolis, MN - For the first time since the 2006 season, the Minnesota Vikings uniforms have received a complete re-haul. In accordance with the NFL and Nike, Minnesota unveiled their new home and away uniforms Thursday night at the team's Draft Party at Mall of America Field.
The jerseys (pictured above) feature elements pulled from the state of Minnesota and the Vikings' culture which runs so richly throughout the upper Midwest.
"We really wanted it to be injected with that Viking identity and with a representation of that culture and environment," Nike's Global VP and Creative Director for Nike Football Todd Van Horne said. "The level of craftsmanship and the detail refers back to the armor that the Vikings have. The swoop in the serif of the the font references the bow of the ship."
In addition to the new number font, the uniform features a brighter color of gold, "Nordic" swoops on the shoulders, matted helmets with black face masks as well as a purple-on-purple and white-on-white outfit option.
While we were out in Beaverton, Oregon visiting the Nike headquarters to see the jerseys earlier this month, Adrian Peterson sat down with our group and shared some of his thoughts on the new jersey.
"Die hard Vikings fans, they will be able to look at this jersey and say, 'that's what a Vikings supposed to look like,'" Peterson said. "The new jersey, it's light it's sharp, it looks good. You just feel like you're ready to go out there and play your best game."
Along with the implementation of some of the Nordic designs, the new jerseys are also infused with some of Nike's latest uniform technology.
