Minneapolis, MN - Possibly hiding behind the excitement that last night's stadium unveiling provided, the Minnesota Vikings personnel department has been very busy the past few days.
Rick Spielman and the Vikings kicked off Tuesday's festivities by signing three of their nine draft picks to rookie level contracts (Gerald Hodges, Michael Mauti and Everett Dawkins). The fun continued Tuesday afternoon when reports started streaming out of Chicago that free agent linebacker Brian Urlacher has widdled down his decision between two teams, the Denver Broncos and the Minnnesota Vikings. Juicier yet, according to the same sources, Urlacher is leaning towards the Minnesota Vikings.
"It's getting close to happening, but Brian is leaning toward heading to Minnesota and is talking a one to two year contract," a source close to Urlacher told Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun Times.
While we can't take this report as truth just quite yet, the move would make a good deal of sense for both parties.
Despite Erin Henderson's potential move to middle linebacker, the Vikings are still looking for some sort of a veteran presence to aid Henderson (and/or rookie ILB Michael Mauti) as they try to break into the middle linebacker role in the NFL. Urlacher would likely prefer to stay in the familiar NFC North division where he has spent the entirety of his 13-year NFL career.
Recent activity stemming from Winter Park would lead you to believe that if a move happens between the Vikings and Urlacher, it would likely happen in the next handful of days.
