Minneapolis, MN - Ten days after being cut by the Vikings, former Minnesota punter Chris Kluwe has been signed to a contract by the Oakland Raiders.
According to FoxSports.com, Kluwe and the Raiders have agreed to a one-year deal that will slot Kluwe in as punter replacing Shane Lechler who signed with the Houston Texans through free agency.
Kluwe is a California native (Los Alamitos) heads from the frozen tundra of Minnesota to play in front of his home state crowd for the first time since attending UCLA in college.
"I'm excited to be an Oakland Raider and be playing in California," Kluwe told Fox Sports. "Now, my family can actually come to games."
During eight seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Kluwe averaged 44.4 yards per punt. The holder of many franchise records for punting, Kluwe was scheduled to make $1.45M with the Vikings this season, a price tag which likely ended his run with Minnesota.
"Hopefully, I"ll be able to play for the next seven years and end my career in California."
