Minneapolis, MN - After missing practice on Thursday afternoon to deal with a personal matter in South Dakota, Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson was back at the team's facilities and practicing Friday.
Adrian's off the field distraction has been linked to a child abuse case stemming from Sioux Falls, SD and reportedly involves a young member of Adrian's family (potentially a child). Peterson, flanked by team representatives, met the media Friday afternoon to give a statement.
"I want to start off by saying, I really appreciate all the support that I've been receiving from the fans, the Vikings organization," Peterson said solemnly. "But you know this is a private matter and I want to ask you all to please just respect my privacy and not ask, at all, about the situation at hand."
It sounds like the situation which took Peterson away from the team on Thursday is changing rapidly and in turn has put Peterson's status Sunday in question. Adrian also took time to set the record on that matter.
"I will be playing Sunday without a doubt," Peterson confirmed. "I'll be ready to roll, focused and worried about getting a W on Sunday."
Peterson went on to say that being around his teammates and playing the game has helped him deal with tough situations in the past and will help him fight through another difficult circumstance this weekend
"Football is something that I'll always fall back on, it just gets me through tough times. Just being around the guys in here. That's what I need in my life is the guys supporting me. Just being able to go out and play this game that I love. Things that I go through, like I've said 1000 times, helps me play this game to a different level. I'm able to kind of release a lot of my stress through this sport. That's what I plan on doing."
Outside of the game, Peterson referenced his faith and 1 Corinthians 10:13 saying that he is "staying prayed up."
"One thing I always bounce back to is that the good Lord will never give you more than you can bear, than you can handle. I'm built tough."
Peterson and the Vikings will take on the Carolina Panthers this coming Sunday at Mall of America Field.
