Minneapolis, MN - We've been sitting on the edge of our seats since last Sunday and now we can all rest easy, well sort of. After holding the "secret" close to his vest for the week, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier officially announced Friday afternoon that Christian Ponder will serve as Minnesota's starting quarterback Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
On the season, Ponder is 0-4 as the Vikings starting quarterback. 73-for-121 passing, Christian has completed 60.33% of his passes while throwing for two scores and five interceptions, leading to a 2013 passer rating of 69.4.
The decision to go the way of Ponder is a peculiar one for the Vikings who are stuck between the cross roads of trying to decide whether their goals should be to give the team the best chance to win games this season or whether they should be researching the prospect of Josh Freeman serving as a long-term solution at the quarterback position. The decision to roll with Ponder leads one to believe that they are playing for the best chance to win on Sunday, a proposition that may very well keep Frazier his job for another week.
Ponder has yet to face the Dallas Cowboys in his three year career and will be returning to his home state of Texas to play in front of family and friends.
