According to TSN in Canada, the NHL will unveil a stadium series for next season. Starting with the Winter Classic January 1st at Michigan Stadium between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings, the league will reportedly add five additional outdoor games.
The reported matchups are tentatively scheduled to be:
January 25th – Anaheim Ducks vs Los Angeles Kings at Dodger Stadium
January 26th – New Jersey Devils vs New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium
January 29th – New York Islanders vs New York Rangers at Yankee Stadium
March 1st – Pittsburgh Penguins vs Chicago Blackhawks at Soldier Field
March 2nd – Ottawa Senators vs Vancouver Canucks at BC Place
Again, these are just tentative matchups that TSN is reporting as being planned, but there is still some work to be finished. The NHL is reportedly trying to capitalize on the hype during Super Bowl week in New York City with the two hockey games held at Yankee Stadium. The two games in March would be played after the Olympics are complete, if the NHL sends players to Russia.
While Wild fans may feel cheated that the Twin Cities won’t be hosting an outdoor game next season, don’t rule anything out for the following season, especially if the league will be having multiple outdoor games each year.
Stay tuned to the Wild Blog for more details on this proposed stadium series.
